    FarCry 2... and Crysis?

Paris- FRANCE – July 19, 2007 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that it will launch Far Cry® 2 in Spring 2008 for PC. Far Cry 2 is being developed in Ubisoft’s Montreal studio.

Looks like ubisoft wants to compete with Crytek/EA, which is funny, as FC2 will be on CryEngine 1

    Re: FarCry 2... and Crysis?

who is to say ubi cant license ce2, or some other entirely different engine? like UE3?

Ubi does have a license to UE3, and have been using it in their rainbow six games.

    Re: FarCry 2... and Crysis?

They have not licensed the CE2 engine, and aren't in any talks with Crytek to.

    Re: FarCry 2... and Crysis?

That still leaves the more likely option, UE3, considering Ubi is already using it extensively in their titles.

It is a modified CryEngine 1 with a lot of work done to it, the same work that they did for Instincts, Evolution, extreme, predator, and all the other xbox related farcry knock offs.

*EDIT: Attached are some leaked scans of the October PC Mag, looks like CE1 with better materials.

    Re: FarCry 2... and Crysis?

    That is...weird o_0

Kind of Ironic that Ubisoft and EA are going head to head on this one, they're both shitty companies with horrible reputations these days.

    Re: FarCry 2... and Crysis?

Crikey, they're milking the Far Cry series for all it's worth aren't they o_o. It'll be interesting to see how it compares to games like Crysis with it's all-new CryENGINE 2

    Re: FarCry 2... and Crysis?

regardless of what it is using, games aren't all about eye candy.

thats not to say it will be a good game. given ubi's track record with story development....

    Re: FarCry 2... and Crysis?

Personally, it looks like they updated cryengine1 with dx10 and better shaders, then added speedtree.

The guy makes it sound like they created it from scratch, but to me, it just looks like they are taking way too much credit for it.  Can you honestly tell me that an "unnamed" engine was under development for over 2 years (normal time for a AAA game engine in development) to be done, and it neither had a name, or any press?

It seems like it will be very pretty, but i have serious doubts that ubisoft made everything they claim.

    Re: FarCry 2... and Crysis?

lol; exactly what i thought too Yes

especilally as he said : "another tool that we developed for the game is a system called "realTree" we are actually very proud of..." Zip it!

actually a devlopment of Crytek... Hmm

look at his eyes; as it seems he is reading a text...   Confused

of course, they updated CE1 with their own development; but its a shame that they are not willing to bring up a simple hint. For example; based on CE1 or Crytek... not even one word!

They may have the right to use the full source code of CE1 and develop it (they had a publishing-deal with crytek which made CryTek imho strong enough to develop) but in that manner its only poor...

    That is NOT OK! Angry

and about the name of this Engine... no comment ... Tongue Tied

    cool smilies, great Forum Smile

    thx for your answer Dante!

    Re: FarCry 2... and Crysis?

on the gc i was able to talk to some crytek developers and one of them told me that ubisoft is useing cryengine1 for farcry2.

while walking around in the bussines area i noticed gabe newell coming out of his crysis presentation and saying to one of the crysis devs "it's amazing, this game is just unbelievable "
